The subtle sound in your ears of a slithering snake,

The feeling in your stomach looking down a precipitous peak,

The trembling in your knees from a quake,

The shaky whisper from your throat when forced to speak,

The sensation in your vision watching

The room continues to compress

The frantic floundering of your arms in the darkness,

These are our involuntary fears.

We think we can never break free from our sorry situation,

That these fears were installed within us in our creation,

That these fears reside within us till our burials and cremations

and yet

There is still a chance,

A chance for us to kick fear out,

Out of our house,

Our house where we take a stance,

A stance where we decide,

What are my fears?
