Hearth - A Poem

By Alice Myers

Next to the blazing hearth she sits alone

Firelight dances across her eyes

The warm glow embraces her body, even the jawbone

Invincible to the howling winds of the skies

and thunderous roars of gloom

Tenderness radiates from the flames

Wood crackling like laughter in a playroom

The smoky haze smelling like grandma’s cookies

Ashes of despair blown away by the wind

Leaving burning feelings of love and hope

An eternal fire she can always find

Next to the blazing hearth she feels at home.
